Nice Coach Hire: Stops, Parks and the Promenade
Nice publishes precise coach rules, and most concern the seafront. Plan where the group gets off, where the coach goes next, and whether it may use the Promenade des Anglais at all.
The seafront needs a waiver
Without a waiver, no tourist coach may drive the Promenade des Anglais, nor the streets running along the Promenade du Paillon. To get one, show a reservation somewhere on that stretch: a hotel, a restaurant, a beach, a museum, or a booked coach parking place. Send those booking details to the operator early.
The low-emission zone covers the seafront and the centre. Cars are no longer affected, but coaches are: Crit'Air 4, 5 and unclassified coaches are barred and a sticker is compulsory. These rules stood after the May 2026 court ruling and could still change.

Thirty minutes at the kerb
The city has 64 coach stops for setting down and picking up, mostly outside hotels, with a 30-minute limit. Avenue Félix Faure has a 10-minute drop-off place. Public bus stops are off limits, and drivers are asked to switch off.
Once the group is off, the coach must go to a coach park. Avenue du XVe Corps and Parc Phoenix are booked online through the city. The MIN coach park near the airport has 67 spaces and needs booking at least 48 hours ahead.

Rules for coaches in Nice
- Aéroport Nice Côte d'Azur (NCE) is about 10 km by road from Place Masséna, about 20-25 min in light traffic and longer at peak times.
- At Nice Côte d'Azur airport the terminal drop-off lanes are reserved for private cars. Coaches use the dedicated professional areas and the coach stations (gares routières); at Terminal 1 the coach station is on level 0, exit A0, beyond the tram forecourt. Coaches with 10 or more seats pay a charge for each visit.
- The Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur low-emission zone (ZFE) is in force. Since April 2025 it no longer restricts cars and light vans; it applies to heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tonnes, buses and coaches. Those with a Crit'Air 4 or 5 sticker, or no sticker, may not drive in the zone, and a Crit'Air sticker is compulsory there.
- The Nice ZFE covers the seafront (Promenade des Anglais, Quai des États-Unis and Quai Rauba Capeu) and the city centre between the Promenade des Anglais, the Voie Mathis, boulevard Carabacel, avenue Désambrois and boulevard Grosso. A 2026 law that would have abolished the ZFEs was struck out on this point by the Conseil constitutionnel on 21 May 2026. These rules are current in October 2026 and Parliament may change them again; check them before travel.
- Tourist coaches are banned at all times, except with a waiver, from the Promenade des Anglais and the roads along the Promenade du Paillon. A waiver is given on proof of a booked service on the route (a hotel, restaurant, beach or museum) or of a coach parking booking.
- Nice has 64 stops reserved for tourist coaches to set down and pick up passengers, mostly in front of hotels, with a stay of 30 minutes at most. There is also a 10-minute coach drop-off place on avenue Félix Faure.
- After setting down, coaches must park in a coach park: avenue du XVe Corps (behind the Jean Bouin sports complex) or Parc Phoenix, both booked online through the city's NiceBusPark service, or the MIN coach park on boulevard du Mercantour near the airport and the A8 (67 spaces, booked at least 48 hours ahead). Coaches may not stop at public bus stops, and drivers are asked to switch the engine off.
- Gare de Nice-Ville: the main station, served by TGV trains from Paris and by regional trains along the coast; tram line 1 runs from the station to the Palais des Expositions.
- The A8 motorway (La Provençale) runs behind the city. It is tolled between Nice and Cannes (Antibes toll barrier) and towards Monaco and Italy (La Turbie toll barrier); the stretch through Nice is free. Exit 50 serves the city centre and the Promenade des Anglais.
- Monaco: at the Prince's Palace, groups of 20 or more must book, and coaches are advised to use the Parking des Pêcheurs below the Musée océanographique. Vehicles registered outside Monaco and the Alpes-Maritimes may not drive up to Monaco-Ville (Le Rocher). The Musée océanographique requires booking for groups of 20 or more.
- Saint-Paul-de-Vence: coaches must use the coach park on chemin des Trious (about 15 spaces, about 10 minutes' walk from the village); setting down or stopping on the public road is not allowed, and the village centre is pedestrian.
- Èze: the village car park is on Place du Général de Gaulle, reached from Nice by the A8 (exit 57, La Turbie) or the coast roads.
- EU drivers' hours rules (Regulation (EC) No 561/2006) apply to coach drivers, including on trips to Monaco and Italy: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest.
Museums with group rules
Both big art museums close on Tuesdays. The Musée Chagall takes adult groups by booking only, splits groups over 30 and has free coach parking. The Musée Matisse in Cimiez needs a time slot for 10 or more, with coach parking on avenue du Monastère. Vieux-Nice and the Cours Saleya are visited on foot.
Monaco, Èze and the hill villages
Only vehicles with Monaco or Alpes-Maritimes registration may go up to Monaco-Ville on the Rock. A visiting coach uses the Parking des Pêcheurs instead, beneath the Musée océanographique. The Palace and the museum both require booking from 20 people.
Saint-Paul-de-Vence is pedestrian. The coach parks on chemin des Trious, about 10 minutes' walk away, and setting down on the public road is forbidden. The A8 is free through Nice but tolled at La Turbie towards Monaco and Italy, and at Antibes towards Cannes.
Organisers ask
Where does the coach meet us at Nice airport?
Not at the terminal kerb, which is for private cars. Coaches are sent to separate professional areas and to the gares routières; at Terminal 1 that is level 0, exit A0, past the tram forecourt. Place Masséna is about 10 km away, 20 to 25 minutes off-peak.
Does the airport charge coaches?
Yes. Vehicles with 10 or more seats pay a charge on each visit. Ask for it to appear on the quote rather than as an extra.
Can we reach Italy and be back the same day?
Sanremo is about an hour each way. EU drivers' hours apply across the border, so the operator plans the day within the daily driving limit and its breaks.
