Coach Rental Across France

EuroAirport Basel-Mulhouse-Freiburg coach transfers: French or Swiss sector

EuroAirport stands on French soil next to Basel, with one terminal split into a French sector and a Swiss sector. Pick the sector before anything else: the coach cannot change sides on the airport.

Choose the sector first

Vehicles cannot drive between the two sectors on site without going through the customs zone. A pick-up must therefore use the sector the passengers will leave by. On foot, people cross between sectors on level 3, in the departures hall. If the group's trip is in France, tell everyone to come out on the French side.

The coach station in the French sector

Coaches load at the coach station on level 2, arrivals, in front of the terminal under the viaduct. It has six barrier-controlled bays for coaches of 12 to 15 m, open from 04:00 to midnight every day. Articulated coaches are not allowed.

Each movement may last 30 minutes at most, and waiting on site is not allowed. If the bays are full, the coach waits outside the airport. Registered operators apply at least 60 days ahead for an access card; others use the intercom at the entry.

Where the coach collects the group

  • Coaches pick up at the airport coach station (gare routière) in the French sector, on level 2 (arrivals) in front of the terminal under the viaduct: six bays for coaches of 12 to 15 m (articulated coaches are not allowed), barrier-controlled and open 04:00-00:00 every day of the year, for regular and occasional (group) services. The airport does not publish a VTC area; taxis have separate ranks in the French and Swiss sectors.

Coach parking and access

  • Each coach movement may last at most 30 minutes and waiting on site is not allowed: if the bays are full, coaches wait outside the airport. Registered operators apply at least 60 days ahead and receive an access card and number-plate registration; other coaches use the entry intercom to obtain a ticket. Charges apply, including for overstays.

Road to the city centre

  • about 135 km by road to Place Kléber, Strasbourg; about 8 km to Basel SBB station and about 30 km to Mulhouse station, about 1 h 35 min to Strasbourg in light traffic; about 15 min to Basel SBB and about 30 min to Mulhouse

Strasbourg is a long way

Place Kléber is about 135 km by road, about 1 h 35 in light traffic, mostly on the A35. Mulhouse station is about 30 km, Basel SBB about 8 km. For a group based in Strasbourg, the transfer is a real part of the day's driving.

The Strasbourg low-emission zone covers all 33 communes of the Eurométropole and applies to coaches. Coaches showing Crit'Air 4 or 5, or no sticker, are refused; the ban on Crit'Air 3 is due to be enforced from January 2027. A German Umweltplakette does not replace the French sticker. Rules may change, so confirm the booked coach's sticker.

Crossing into Switzerland

A coach over 3.5 t registered outside Switzerland pays the Swiss heavy vehicle charge for each day it is in Switzerland, paid in advance. If the programme includes Basel, say so with the request so it is in the quote.

Organisers ask

Can the coach wait in the coach station for a late flight?

No. Each movement is limited to 30 minutes and waiting on site is forbidden. The coach waits off the airport and comes in when the group is ready.

We are going to Strasbourg. Should we fly here?

Compare flights first. The road transfer is about 135 km. For drivers' hours, a long transfer counts towards the driver's day.

Is there public transport to Basel or Mulhouse?

Bus 50 runs from the Swiss sector to Basel SBB in about 20 minutes. Bus 11 runs from the French sector to Saint-Louis station, with regional trains onward.
