Coach Rental Across France

Montpellier Coach Hire with a Driver

Most of the Écusson is pedestrian, so a coach in Montpellier works from a few kerbside points. Know which one serves your hotel or venue before you set any times.

Three drop-off points, one coach each

The tourist office names three city-centre kerbs for setting down and picking up: rue de la Spirale (Mercure Centre hotel), boulevard d'Antigone (Ibis Centre Polygone) and rue Pagézy (Campanile, by the station). Each takes a single coach, so stagger two coaches by a few minutes.

Once the group is off, the coach leaves to park. Two coach parks are listed: Père Louis, on avenue du Pirée in Port Marianne, and Lycée Joffre, on rue d'Argencourt. Joffre does not suit every coach, so give the operator the group size and let them pick. The Arceaux coach park on Place Max Rouquette was closed for works.

The ZFE and your coach

Montpellier's low-emission zone has run since July 2022, at all hours, every day. No vehicle may drive in it without a Crit'Air sticker. Under the métropole's January 2025 guide, a coach is barred only if it is a diesel first registered on or before 31 December 2013.

The zone began with 11 communes, Lattes and Pérols among them, and the métropole planned to take in all 31 from July 2026. Have the quote state the coach's Crit'Air class, then compare it with the métropole's current rule in the week before you travel.

Rules for coaches in Montpellier

  • Aéroport Montpellier-Méditerranée (MPL) is about 10 km by road from the Place de la Comédie, about 15 min in light traffic. Nîmes airport is about 58 km (about 45 min) and Marseille Provence (MRS) about 148 km (about 1 h 50 min).
  • Trains arrive at Gare Montpellier Saint-Roch, in the city centre about 200 m from the Place de la Comédie, and at Gare Montpellier Sud de France, a TGV station outside the centre in the Cambacérès district, linked to the centre by tram line 1.
  • Montpellier Méditerranée Métropole has had a low-emission zone (ZFE) since 1 July 2022. It applies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and a Crit'Air sticker is compulsory for every vehicle in the zone. The métropole's January 2025 guide says that heavy vehicles, buses and coaches are banned only if they are diesel vehicles first registered up to 31 December 2013.
  • The ZFE first covered 11 communes (including Montpellier, Lattes, Pérols and Castelnau-le-Lez); the métropole planned to extend it to all 31 communes from 1 July 2026. These rules change, so check the current rules with the métropole before travel.
  • The tourist office lists three city-centre coach drop-off and pick-up points, each with one coach space: in front of the Mercure Centre hotel (rue de la Spirale), in front of the Ibis Centre Polygone hotel (boulevard d'Antigone) and near the Campanile hotel by the station (rue Pagézy).
  • For coach parking the tourist office lists the Parking du Père Louis (avenue du Pirée, Port Marianne) and the Parking Lycée Joffre (rue d'Argencourt), which is not suitable for every coach. The Arceaux coach park (Place Max Rouquette) was closed for works.
  • Montpellier is on the A9 (La Languedocienne), a toll motorway (autoroute à péage), with the A709 bypass; the city has four main exits (Nord, Est, Ouest and Sud).
  • The Foire internationale de Montpellier runs from 9 to 19 October 2026 at the Parc des Expositions in Pérols; expect heavy traffic near the airport while it is on.

Flights and trains

From the Place de la Comédie to Montpellier-Méditerranée airport is roughly 10 km: a quarter of an hour by car on clear roads. Nîmes airport is about 58 km out. Marseille Provence is about 148 km, close to two hours by car.

Gare Saint-Roch sits about 200 m from the Place de la Comédie. Some TGVs stop instead at Montpellier Sud de France, out in Cambacérès. Tram line 1 links it to the centre, but a large group with suitcases is simpler to meet by coach.

Day runs from the city

Aigues-Mortes and Sète are each about 35 minutes away by car, Nîmes about 45 and Arles about an hour. For the Pont du Gard, about 1 h 10 by car, book the group visit first; coaches park on either bank, at Vers-Pont-du-Gard or Remoulins.

The A9, La Languedocienne, is a toll motorway, and the A709 bypasses the city. Ask whether tolls are in the quote. From 9 to 19 October 2026 the Foire internationale is on at the Parc des Expositions in Pérols, so expect slow traffic around the airport.

Organisers ask

Can the coach stop on the Place de la Comédie?

No drop-off point is listed on the square. Use rue de la Spirale, boulevard d'Antigone or rue Pagézy and walk the group in.

Will the ZFE turn our coach away?

Only a diesel coach first registered by the end of 2013 is barred, per the January 2025 guide. A sticker is compulsory for all. The rule may change, so check before you leave.

Do we need to book the Pont du Gard?

Yes. Group visits must be booked in advance.
