Hire a Coach and Driver in Lille
Lille is compact, and a coach rarely needs to enter the old town. The plan rests on three places: the Place Rihour for a quick drop, the Champ de Mars for parking, and the two stations.
Drop at Rihour, park at the Champ de Mars
A coach may pull in briefly on the Place Rihour, by the Palais Rihour and the tourist office, to let the group off or on, and nothing more. For the return, have everyone on the pavement before the coach appears, because the driver cannot wait there.
The Champ de Mars esplanade offers free coach parking, about 25 bays. Boulevard de Leeds, at the international coach station beside Lille-Europe, has a few more. The Champ de Mars is out of use during the Braderie.

The MEL low-emission zone
The MEL zone takes in the whole métropole, 95 communes, plus the main motorways crossing it, the A1 and A27 among them. It applies around the clock. Unclassified vehicles registered before 1 January 1997 are banned, coaches included.
Whatever its plates, each vehicle must carry a Crit'Air sticker, and police officers do the checks. A group bringing its own coach from Belgium or the UK should get the sticker before the trip. Confirm the rules with the MEL shortly before you go.

Rules for coaches in Lille
- Aéroport de Lille (LIL) at Lesquin is about 18 km by road from the Grand-Place, about 25 min in light traffic. Paris-Charles de Gaulle (CDG) is about 198 km (about 2 h 5 min). Brussels Airport in Belgium is about 127 km (about 1 h 30 min) and is cross-border context only.
- Trains arrive at Gare Lille-Flandres and Gare Lille-Europe, a short walk apart in the centre; Lille-Europe takes TGV and international high-speed trains. The international coach station is on Boulevard de Leeds, next to Lille-Europe.
- The Métropole Européenne de Lille (MEL) low-emission zone has applied since 1 January 2025 to all 95 communes of the MEL and to the main roads through it (including the A1, A22, A23, A25 and A27), 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- In the MEL zone, unclassified vehicles registered before 1 January 1997 are banned, buses and coaches included, and every vehicle, including foreign-registered vehicles, must display a Crit'Air sticker. Checks are made by police officers. These rules change, so check them with the MEL before travel.
- The tourist office lists free coach parking on the Esplanade du Champ de Mars (about 25 spaces, not available during the Braderie) and a few coach spaces at the international coach station on Boulevard de Leeds, by Lille-Europe.
- Coaches may stop for a few minutes on the Place Rihour, by the Palais Rihour and the tourist office, only to drop off or pick up passengers.
- The Braderie de Lille (next on 4 and 5 September 2027) fills the city centre and closes the Champ de Mars coach park; plan coach access well ahead.
- Louvre-Lens: drivers can drop off and pick up in the museum park (access from rue Paul Bert in Lens); coaches park at the Parking Jean Jaurès in Liévin (15 coach spaces).
- Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy: the "Parking C2 BUS" (Zone C, rue Élisée Reclus, Villeneuve-d'Ascq) holds about 40 coaches, is free on event days subject to space, and is linked to the stadium by a footbridge over the N227.
- The A1 to Paris and the A26 to Reims are toll motorways (autoroutes à péage). Belgium (Bruges, Brussels, Ypres) is cross-border day-trip context only.
Stations, airport and match days
Lille-Europe handles TGV and international high-speed services; Lille-Flandres is a short walk away. Lesquin airport lies roughly 18 km out, 25 minutes or so by car when traffic is light. Paris-Charles de Gaulle is about 198 km.
Match or concert at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre-Mauroy? Use the Parking C2 BUS in Zone C, rue Élisée Reclus, which holds about 40 coaches. It is free on event days while space lasts, and a footbridge over the N227 leads to the stadium. On a big night, arrive early.
Museums, memorials and Belgium
Louvre-Lens is about 40 minutes by car, and group booking is compulsory no later than two weeks before the visit. The driver sets down in the museum park, entering from rue Paul Bert, then waits at Liévin's Parking Jean Jaurès, with 15 coach bays. The Vimy memorial is about 45 minutes; booking is recommended from 10 people.
Ypres, Bruges and Brussels make cross-border day trips. Tolls apply on the A1 (for Paris) and the A26 (for Reims). A return day to Paris, about 222 km each way, needs care with the driver's hours.
Organisers ask
When is the next Braderie de Lille?
On 4 and 5 September 2027, the first weekend of September. The centre fills up and the Champ de Mars coach park closes, so plan coach access well ahead.
Can the coach wait on the Place Rihour?
No. It may stop for a few minutes to set down or pick up, then it moves on to the Champ de Mars or Boulevard de Leeds.
Does a coach from abroad need a Crit'Air sticker here?
Yes. Every vehicle in the MEL zone, wherever it is registered, must display one.
