Marseille Coach Hire for Groups
Marseille redrew its coach map in late 2025. The streets around the Vieux-Port and Le Panier are now off limits, so a city tour starts from the official set-down points, not the nearest square.
What closed in November 2025
A municipal order of 14 November 2025 closed the Vieux-Port and Le Panier streets to tourist coaches, including Place de Lenche, the Parvis Saint-Laurent, the Grand Rue and part of the Quai du Port. Part of the avenue de Saint-Jean, rue Henri Tasso and part of the Quai du Port stay open, some one way only. Le Panier is a walking visit.

Where to drop the group
The tourist office lists the official set-down points. On the MuCEM side, use avenue Vaudoyer, facing the Musée Regards de Provence. Number 18 boulevard Montricher is usable from 08:30 to 19:00. On the Corniche there is the Square du Lieutenant Danjaume, and to the north, quai du Lazaret by Les Terrasses du Port.
For parking, the Parc Borély coach park on avenue Clot Bey opens 06:00 to 21:00, last exit 20:45. It is gated overnight and takes card payment only, so an evening return must be timed.

Rules for coaches in Marseille
- Aéroport Marseille Provence (MRS), at Marignane, is about 26 km by road from the Vieux-Port, about 30 min in light traffic and longer at peak times.
- Marseille has a low-emission zone (ZFE-m) in the city centre, created by the Métropole Aix-Marseille-Provence in 2022. It applies to all vehicles, including coaches and minibuses, 24 hours a day, every day. Vehicles with a Crit'Air 4 or 5 sticker, or no sticker, may not drive or park in the zone, so every coach and minibus needs a Crit'Air sticker.
- The Marseille ZFE-m covers about 19.5 km² of the centre, inside a boundary formed by avenue du Cap Pinède, boulevard Capitaine Gèze, boulevard de Plombières, boulevard Sakakini, boulevard Jean Moulin, boulevard Rabatau and avenue du Prado. A 2026 law that would have abolished the ZFEs was struck out on this point by the Conseil constitutionnel on 21 May 2026. These rules are current in October 2026 and Parliament may change them again; check them before travel.
- A municipal order of 14 November 2025 closes the streets around the Vieux-Port and Le Panier to tourist coaches, including Place de Lenche, the Esplanade de la Tourette, the Parvis Saint-Laurent, the Grand Rue and part of the Quai du Port. Coaches may still use part of the avenue de Saint-Jean, rue Henri Tasso and part of the Quai du Port, some in one direction only.
- Official coach set-down and pick-up points listed by the Office de Tourisme include avenue Vaudoyer (opposite the Musée Regards de Provence and opposite the Mémorial), the Montée de l'Oratoire for Notre-Dame de la Garde, 18 boulevard Montricher (08:30-19:00), the Square du Lieutenant Danjaume on the Corniche, the service road of boulevard Michelet in front of the Le Corbusier building, and Les Terrasses du Port on quai du Lazaret.
- The Parc Borély coach park, on avenue Clot Bey in the 8th arrondissement, is open every day from 06:00 to 21:00 (last exit 20:45) and is closed by a gate at night; payment is by card.
- On the roads up to Notre-Dame de la Garde, tourist coaches longer than 13.50 m are banned from rue d'Endoume and those longer than 13 m from chemin du Vallon de l'Oriol.
- Cassis: from 1 May to 15 October, vehicles over 3.5 tonnes may not enter the town centre. Coaches set down and park at the Gorguettes coach area (25 spaces), and a small tourist train runs to the centre. Coaches never park in the town centre, and the tourist office asks to be told the date, time and group size in advance.
- Calanques: from 1 June to 30 September, access to the massifs depends on the daily fire-risk level, published at 17:00 for the next day; at the highest level all access on foot and by vehicle is banned. The roads to Sormiou, Morgiou and Callelongue are closed to cars at weekends and on public holidays from the Easter school holidays, and every day from June to September. Visits to the Calanque de Sugiton need a reservation on the busiest summer days.
- Gare de Marseille Saint-Charles: the main station, in the city centre, with TGV trains from Paris (about 3 hours), Lyon and Nice.
- The Prado-Carénage tunnel through the city centre is tolled and limited to light vehicles, so coaches use the surface roads. The A50 between Marseille and Aubagne is free; the motorways towards Aix-en-Provence, Avignon (A7) and Toulon (A50 beyond Aubagne) have tolled sections.
- EU drivers' hours rules (Regulation (EC) No 561/2006) apply to coach drivers: at most 9 hours of driving a day (10 hours twice a week), a 45-minute break after 4.5 hours of driving and at least 11 hours of daily rest.
Crit'Air and the tunnel
The ZFE-m spans about 19.5 km² of the centre and covers all traffic, coaches and minibuses too, at every hour. Nothing rated Crit'Air 4 or 5, and nothing unrated, may be driven or parked there. The zone stands after the 2026 ruling but could change, so confirm the sticker class at booking. The Prado-Carénage tunnel takes light vehicles only; coaches stay on surface roads.
Notre-Dame de la Garde, the MuCEM and Cassis
The basilica opens 07:00 to 18:00, and the coach set-down is on the Montée de l'Oratoire. Length limits apply on the way up: over 13.50 m is banned on rue d'Endoume, over 13 m on chemin du Vallon de l'Oriol. The MuCEM wants groups of 8 or more booked, about 15 days ahead for a guided visit.
Cassis shuts its town centre to anything over 3.5 tonnes between 1 May and 15 October. Coaches stop at the Gorguettes area, where a small tourist train takes over. Tell the tourist office beforehand when you are coming and how many are in the group.
Organisers ask
How far is the airport from the Vieux-Port?
Marseille Provence, at Marignane, is about 26 km away: around 30 minutes in light traffic, more at rush hour.
Can we see the Calanques by coach in summer?
From 1 June to 30 September access depends on the fire-risk level, announced daily at 17:00 for the day after. At the top level every access is closed, on foot or by vehicle. Keep a fallback such as Aix or the Corniche.
Does the Château d'If take groups?
Yes, with group terms from 20 paying adults. It is reached by boat from the Vieux-Port, so the coach drops at an official point and returns at an agreed time.
